With 12 teams from San Diego’s Division 1 & 2 competing in Ocean Beach’s head-high surf, competition was fierce and nail bitting. After a long day of surfing, it was Point Loma’s own Joe Diamond standing victorious in the Men’s Shortboard division and proudly raising his first place medal. See below for full complete results.
This past Staurday, event No. 2 of the San Diego Middle School season was greeted with solid 4-to 6-foot surf at Avalanche’s in Ocean Beach. Competitors wasted no time and made quick work of the sizable surf, and in the end, it was Valley Middle School taking top honors—making that back-to-back victories for them.
In two-to three-foot conditions with moments of sunshine, seven Division 3 High Schools competed for top honors, but at the end of the day it was Vista, Rancho Buena Vista, and University City High all claiming victory in the Team division. In the individual shortboard divisions, Justin Wood from University City high and Kiara Tompkins from Vista High were able to rise above the talented field of young surfers and add one more accolade to their growing list of accomplishments.
This past weekend, the Scholastic Surf Series kicked off the 1st event of Div 1 & 2 (Coastal) High School surf teams in 4-to 5-foot surf with good conditions. Before the individual portion of the event was postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions, Division 1’s Point Loma, San Dieguito, La Jolla, and Carlsbad ‘A’ won their respected matches in the peaky surf. Division 2’s La Costa Canyon, Carlsbad ‘B’, and Oceanside High had similar luck as Division 1 schools and will now carry a winning a record into event No. 2.
On Saturday, at at San Fernando Place in Mission Beach, the Scholastic Surf Series kicked off San Diego’s Division 3 High School surfing with 2011-2012 season series. Seven Division 3 High Schools competed in 3-to 4-foot surf with good conditions. San Diego’s best put on stellar performance in the good surf, and it will be exciting to watch the competitors continue to improve. OCTOBER 29, 2011 – NINTH STREET, HUNTINGTON BEACH-This past weekend, the Scholastic Surf Series, a division of the Western Surfing Assoc. (WSA), kicked off the 2011-2012 season at Ninth Street in Huntington Beach. Seven Orange County Middle Schools and four High Schools competed in 3-to 4-foot surf under perfect conditions. Shorecliffs Middle School took top-honors in the team division, as their team shined in Huntington Beach’s fun conditions. In the High School division, Santa Margarita’s Dane Peterson rose above a field of top-notch competitors to claim feat in the Men’s Shortboard Division. Similar to Peterson’s path to victory, Monica Laird edged out Megan Roby to take the win in the Women’s Shortboard Division. Competitors will meet next on November 19 at Oceanside Harbor.

The Scholastic Surf Series kicked off the 2011-2012 season series with event #1 of San Diego Division 3 High School surfing this past Saturday at San Fernando Place in Mission Beach (MB). The seven teams competing showed no signs of a summer break, as competitors ripped apart MB’s 3-to 4-foot surf. However, in the end it was University City, Westview, Rancho Buena Vista, and Vista (had a bye) coming out on top. With four more events still on tap, don’t be surprised if you see Cathedral Catholic, Canyon Crest, and San Marcos on the podium next time, as the teams we’ll surely put in another strong performance. SURFING AMERICA TAKES ISA JUDGING AND OFFICIATING PROGRAM TO ATLANTIC CITY, NJ
Course provides opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about judging criteria and methods used in top surfing competition around the world
San Juan Capistrano, Calif. – October 4, 2011 - Surfing America, the National Governing Body for surfing in the USA, is pleased to announce that it will be holding its second ISA Judging and Officiating Course on October 14, 2011, at Caesar’s Palace Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ. This event is designed to coincide with the Surfing America Prime event in Atlantic City and falls on the day before the competition begins.
The ISA Judging & Officiating Development Program is the result of 15 years of research and development and is recognized as the most comprehensive judging education program in the world.
