Scholastic Surf Series (SSS) is a school-based surf competition program that gives students the chance to compete in organized surf events while representing their schools.

HEAT SHEETS

If you registered after the deadline and do not see your name on the roster, then you are on the waiting list.  You will receive text messages from me to let you know your place in line as spots open up until Sunday evening.  If you do not get into the contest you will be refunded.

Here is what to expect on Contest Day.

Schedule – the schedule shows the division heat times so you can plan your day. It will be posted on Wednesday of contest week. Competition will begin at 7:00 am.

Arrive at least one-half hour prior to your heat time.

Check in with the Contest Director, Carolyn Krammer at the Heat Board.

Before or after your heat pick up your free T-shirt and Drawing Prize Ticket at the Welcome table.

Parking - The Beach Parking lots are pay parking or there is free parking up by the Harbor Shops under the Train trestle.

Traffic Warning – If you are traveling from the north please be aware of really heavy traffic on the I-5 Freeway going South starting on Friday morning as well as Saturday and Sunday mornings. Don’t be late for your heats.

OVERVIEW

This registration page is for any individual High School competitor who would like to compete on Monday. This is a separate competition from team competition. We accept late registrations for our wait list (refunds made for those who don’t make entry).

Dates:

March 23 – Monday Individuals Championship

Location:

Oceanside Harbor South Jetty, San Diego California

Entry:

Deadline is March 1, 2026

Eligibility:

  • A surfer must be a member of a team on a surf league prior to the last league event.

  • Seeding will be based on the rating from that league.

Acceptance:

  • Entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until slots are filled.

  • Your Team rating will be used if there are more entries than slots available.

  • If you are not accepted, you will be contacted one week prior to the contest.

  • A roster of accepted entries will be posted one week prior on the State Champs webpage.

  • Late entries will be held on a waiting list. Refunds will be made if entry is not accepted.

Fees:

$ 80 per surfer / per division – you may surf multiple divisions

$ 10 per student non-member accident insurance (**optional)

Schedule:

  • Available on the website three days prior to contest date.

  • Competition will begin at 7:00 am each day.

Rules:

  • SSS uses the WSA and WSL Rules for competition.

  • Basic rules will be posted at the event and on our website.

  • Shortboards are to be 7 feet 6 inches or less. SUP’s are not allowed.

  • Longboards are to be a minimum of 3 feet over the head of the surfer. SUP’s are not allowed.

  • Bodyboards should be no more than 2 inches above or below the belly button. Beaters are not acceptable.

  • A surfer who competes on a board that is not appropriate for the competition may be disqualified.

Trophies:

  • Trophies will be awarded for 1st through 6th place in each division.

  • The “Sportsmanship Awards” will be presented to two students who have displayed outstanding sportsmanship. Students are nominated by their coach and the SSS Contest Director’s will select the winners.
